Bulldogs Ready For Puerto Rico Classic

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia men’s golf team will continue the 2022 portion of its schedule next week in the Puerto Rico Classic.

Lineup: Senior Trent Phillips; juniors Nicolas Cassidy and Ben van Wyk; and freshmen Buck Brumlow and Maxwell Ford. Senior Will Kahlstorf and junior Connor Creasy will compete as individuals.

Field: Georgia, Purdue, Ole Miss, Maryland, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Oklahoma, Marquette, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan State.

Course: Grand Reserve Country Club (par 72, 7,506 yards).

Schedule and format: Georgia and the other squads will have 18 holes of stroke play Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Live Results: Golfstat will provide live scoring, pairings, and tee times.

Rankings: No. 12 Golfstat, No. 15 Golfweek/Sagarin, No. 16 Bushnell Golfweek Coaches.

Last Time: The Bulldogs came in fourth in the Southwestern Invitational in California last month. Phillips placed ninth, and Ford and van Wyk came in 18th.

Coach Chris Haack Says: “This is always one of our most favorite tournaments of the year. Aside from this season, it’s been our traditional restart, so it’s always a great measuring stick. We’ll be tested by both the course and the field as both are excellent. Our guys have been working hard and battling during qualifying, so I’m anticipating solid play all the way around.”

News & Notes: Grand Reserve Country Club is the site of the Puerto Rico Open. The medalist of the Puerto Rico Classic will receive an invitation to the PGA Tour event March 3-6. … Ford was named the SEC Freshman of the Week following his performance in the Southwestern Invitational. … Phillips was named to the 30-man watch list for the Hogan Award. … Cassidy is serving this year on Georgia’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, while Creasy and Kalhstorf are on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. … van Wyk’s last name is pronounced fun-vake. …… Ford represented the Bulldogs in the Patriot All-America, wherein the players carry a bag that includes the name and branch of service of a fallen or severely wounded soldier. … Phillips is rated No. 5 by Golfweek/Sagarin, No. 12 in the Velocity Global Ranking, and No. 14 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. … Phillips has appeared in 33 of 33 collegiate tournaments. 

On Deck: After the Puerto Rico Classic, the Bulldogs will compete Feb. 27-March 1 in the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas.
