March 26, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away suddenly on Friday night. No cause of death was disclosed. He was 50 years old.

The band announced the news on Twitter, saying, “The Foo Fighters family Is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins,” the band wrote in a brief statement. “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

Back in 2021, Dave Navarro, Taylor Hawkins, and Chris Chaney had teamed up to create a new band called NHC as part of their side projects. Dave Navarro played guitar for the Red Hot Chili Peppers and is a member of Jane’s Addiction. Chris Chaney is the bassist for Jane’s Addiction and had also toured with Alanis Morissette for six years. Hawkins had toured with Morissette for two tours before he joined the Foo Fighters on their third album and stayed with the band ever since.

Pinned to the top of his page was a post from February 4, sharing the lyrics of NHC’s “I Could Be Somebody Else,” which he helped write.

The lyrics begin “When you say that you understand / I would say that you never can / You could say my life’s been good / I would say that you misunderstood.”

Later on in the song, “Let’s go play friend / Maybe I’m afraid of a long goodbye / Prisoners don’t escape they just love to die / On your line / On your line.”

“Studio 666” is the Foo Fighters’ first-ever feature film. The horror-comedy sees the band trapped inside a haunted recording studio that possesses frontman Dave Grohl and watches him try to pick off the band through supernatural means one at a time.

Although critics didn’t absolutely love the film, likening it to a long “Saturday Night Live” sketch, it was a must-see for fans of the band, who loved their sense of humor. Although some had been calling for a sequel, it seems unlikely to happen without Hawkins in the band.

Although he was a drummer first and foremost, Hawkins really knew how to appreciate guitars. He tweeted a photo from NHC of him inspecting a PRS guitar. The brand is known for selling high-quality electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitars, and amplifiers.

He also retweeted a few videos and snapshots from where he and NHC performed at the Troubadour. Hawkins’ final performance was with the Foo Fighters in Argentina last Sunday.
