Kyler Murray Arizona Cardinals future, curious social media move sparks speculation

February 7, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Is there trouble in paradise between Kyler Murray and the Cardinals?

That’s the multi-million dollar question stumping social media on Monday after the 24-year-old quarterback unfollowed the team on both Instagram and Twitter. He also curiously scrubbed all traces of the franchise from his Instagram page.

Murray has one season remaining on his four-year rookie contract, with the Cardinals likely to exercise the deal’s fifth-year option. The dual-threat quarterback is in line for a monster extension ahead of the 2024 season.

Murray, the first-overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, competed in Sunday’s Pro Bowl, where he threw for 160 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. As of Monday, his Pro Bowl slideshow is one of two posts that remain on his Instagram page.“2x Pro Bowler … Grateful & appreciative to everyone who made this week a special one,” Murray captioned the post on Sunday.

The other post on Murray’s page dates back to December 2018, when the former Sooners quarterback was awarded the Heisman Trophy.

Beyond Instagram, Murray’s Twitter avatar features the athlete in his Sooners jersey, as well as a baseball uniform.

Murray’s third season with the Cardinals got off to a hot start, with the team winning its first seven games of the regular season. Things soon went awry, with Arizona finishing at 11-7, ultimately losing the NFC West title to the Rams.

Although the Cardinals clinched a playoff berth, their 2021 campaign came to a disappointing end in mid-January, when the Rams demolished them in the wild-card round of the playoffs, 34-11.

With the offseason now underway for Murray, time will tell if the Cardinals return to the quarterback’s social media pages or if he’ll make room in his bio for a new team instead.
