Shamli: A social media news went viral on Saturday that UP cane minister Suresh Rana suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a hospital in Noida. It was later revealed that the news was fake, and was spread by a resident of Bhainswal village of Shamli, police said.
Mandi police station SHO Deepak Chaturvedi told TOI, “We have booked the man who spread the news under IPC section 505 (making statements conducing to public mischief). The accused has not been arrested yet.”
Rana is a candidate of Thanabhawan constituency of Shamli that went to polls in the first phase of UP elections held on February 10.
“The news is fake as the minister, at present, is campaigning in Sultanpur. We have heard the news and have been assured of impartial inquiry into the matter by the police,” read a statement released from his office.
Earlier, in a letter to EC, Rana had alleged booth capturing by SP-RLD workers in around 40 booths of Thanabhawan, which is also his assembly area. The claim, however, was rejected by Shamli DM, Jasjeet Kaur, stating, “The election was conducted in a fair and transparent manner.”
